Five Reasons Why your Indoor Plants are Dying too Quickly!

Keeping your indoor plants alive is as easy as 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.

If you’re like most people, chances are you’ve probably (accidentally) killed a plant or two in your life time. That’s okay… we’ve all done it! Truth is there are many reasons why indoor plants die, and it may not always be your fault.

keeping indoor plants alive

1. How much water is enough for indoor plants?

More often than not people either kill their plants with kindness (over water their plants), OR ignore them until it’s too late and they wilt away. Consistency is KEY. Just like your other household chores, put your plants on a watering schedule.

2. Know what your Plant Needs

Just like humans, all plants are NOT created equal! Similarly each plant has different needs and knowing that can make all the difference. Doing your research is important. Learn about the plant before buying it and understand its needs for lighting, watering, soil etc.

3. Buy your plants from a reputable source

Don’t be fooled by the inexpensive prices that many big box retailers have their plants priced at. Many times there’s a good reason! Most plants have to go through a rigorous process before they’re delivered to a storefront. This multi-step system can often cause the plant harm and as a result end up with a compromised root system.

4. Big Pots do not Equal Big Plants

Often times people mistakenly kill their plants by immediately transplanting their new babies into a big pot with lots of soil. This can work in certain conditions and with aggressive roots, but more often than not its exposing the new plant to unnecessary excess soil. As a result our beloved baby plant gets over watered (see point 1).

5. Just as Seasons Change, Plants Change

Plants needs will change over time and in the different seasons. Know what to do to keep your plants happy and healthy! Stay away from cold drafts and cold windows, and be mindful of hot windows or heaters and A/C vents, these things can alter the needs of your plants.

Indoor plants add a beautiful touch to a living space and more importantly offer some great health and wellness benefits. By utilizing these 5 helpful tips you can have a longer and healthier lifespan for your beloved green family members.
